Rowdy are you referring to the $365 starter in the performance section?

It don't look bad but I went the more is better route. I figured what's a days worth of work to build a crossmember when a tail housing costs like $300. I can't say if that's good enough or not cuz I've only built the one crossmember.

I found a high torque starter off eBay for $55 but I'm all for getting one from AutoZone for $60 and it comes with a LLT warranty.

Well, the starter debacle was all on the dyslexic wiring fool--me. The alternator output was on the same post of the relay as the starter, which will definitely smoke the starter (duhhh). It runs. I'm still working on the exhaust and only part way through the fabrication of the down tubes from the manifolds. Probably running a little weird because I just put a new MAF in it and hooked up the ACT without resetting the PCM before this start.

ideas on fixing an oil leak?

Discovered a leak coming from next to one of the oil pan bolts and I'm not sure how best to fix it. It looks like the pan has a very small crack next to the bolt washer and tightening the bolt may actually open it up more. I'm thinking a weld would get in the way of the washer. Anybody have any better ideas?

A small dab of JB weld. Just hit it with brake cleaner then apply the JB weld.

X2. That stuff is awesome. I fixed my column shifter in my ranger with it.

Weld the crack, then grind it smooth for the washer...

Rough Idle--poor acceleration

Thought I had this whipped when I put a new upper plenum gasket on the intake and got rid of a vacuum leak. Still doing it. Checked the TPS and voltage was low, so switched it out and tried two other TPsensors. Same result--voltage is .14 on all of them. KOEO codes are 15, 23, 67, 85, 95

15 is a power interrupt to the PCM--is that because I keep disconnecting the battery to do stuff?

23 TPS out of range

67 A/C which I have not connected at all

85 canister purge

95 secondary fuel pump circuit--is this because I didn't run the additional wire from the PCM to the pump?

Don't have a fuel pressure tester

Once I get past part throttle it seems to do a lot better, but it is not running up to par. Has new 02 sensors, no CEL. New MAF. New plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor are good, timing is set at 10 degrees BTDC.

Don't understand how the TPS voltage can be the same on every sensor and not change with throttle movement.

V8 tachometer install

I wanted the stock look, so I got a tach from a '95 Bronco and adapted it to fit the Ranger instrument cluster. Had to trim a little plastic on the right side, and lengthen the pins on the back so it would plug in to the cluster. I used the pins off of the old 4.0 PCM wires and trimmed the ends so I could slip them over the existing pins, then cut them to the right length and just barely crimped the ends. Works great and is accurate!

Time to stick a fork in it

I guess I'll call it done--not well done, just medium rare. She runs and drives and there is still a list of fixes and little things that need to be dealt with, but that list will probably never end. A couple of annoying leaks need to be fixed, the interior has to be re installed, tires balanced, etc, etc. I'm glad I took on the project and I'm satisfied with the results.

I just filled it up for the first time today, so it will be a little while before I know how much petrol it's sucking. I'd estimate about 15-17 right now, but that's a guess based on 160 miles on a partial fill-up.
