Lowered the 5.0L down in my 87 BII 4X4 and quickly learned the dual sump oil pans from FMS, late 80s Mercs & Lincolns, etc.. won't work with the 4X4. The rear sump is too big to fit down over the cross member.

Would any of you who swapped a 5.0L/302 into a Bronco II/Ranger 4X4 please let me know what oil pan you went with and how it's worked for you?

Thanks!

Mark

It does fit.

Mine doesn't fit well though.

Mine has over an inch of shimming (between the mount and crossmember and between the mount and the block) on the passenger side and about half that on the drivers side (all between the mount and the block) I also have the fox covert/sn95 mounts. I wish I would have brazed in a pipe bushing somewhere else so the oil didn't drain onto the pivot bracket. Also wish I had used V6 mounts with plates because it would have been much easier to adjust the height of the engine. If I pull the engine again both will be rectified.

On mine the cab (and thus the engine) sit farther ahead than most swaps, it is a "your results may vary" aspect of a swap though.

If it wasn't for the Explorer front belt system that has no provisions for a front dipstock what-so-ever I think a front sump pan would fit my truck much better.

I would direct you to my swap thread at this point with pics but photobucket is being a putz.

Thanks for the feedback. It's not too late for me to go with the plates and V6 mounts. Also talking with a machine/welding shop about ideas how to modify the existing oil pan so it will fit better. Going to try and use the 4.0L oil pan as a guide to modify the 5.0L pan.

All literature I've read recommended the dual sump oil pan. None specified 2 or 4 wheel drive, leaving me to believe the pan would fit both versions. Today I was checking out the L&L website. They offer a dual sump oil pan kit. They also state right out that it's for 2WD only.

I've seen others state they're using a Bronco 302 oil pan, an Econoline oil pan, an F150 oil pan, etc.. Surely there's one that fits fairly well in the BII/Ranger 4X4 V8 Swap.

Still open to guidance/suggestions.

Thanks!

Mark

A truck pan will not work, the sump is right where the crossmember would go.

For either drive the dual sump is the go to pan on here.

IMO you need to move the drain hole and gain altitude (get the engine to sit higher)

Im running a standard double sump on stock v6 mounts in my b2. Engine plates i made are a little over 1/4 thick and i have plenty of clearance. I ran into a similar problem with a pan ordered on ebay. It was a full inch deeper than a standard pan.

I'm using a standard double sump pan with flat mounts on original V-6 engine mounts. With a 3" body lift, my engine sits far enough back for plenty of clearance for the pan and the M5ODR2 trans from an F150 sits on the original trans mount in my 1992.
