2001 mountaineer efi 5.0 to carb??

Need some help for those who have been there done that. I have a 86 ranger with a 87 302 roller from a mustang installed and driving but I have some crank walk/thrust bearings going on with my current motor...

I found a Gt-40 2001 mountaineer complete motor for $800. :icon_confused:

Sooo... my plan is... I am going to swap over my wienad dual plane intake and holley 600 carb. use my electric carter pump, and current oil pan

Distributor is currently an MSD for an 87. Can I use it? I don't know the difference between my current one and the duraspark from and 85 mustang

Can I use my current headers. they are some funky looking shorties. possible stock explorer 5.0?

I WANT to install POWERSTEERING what kind of donor parts do I need?
Can I use all the mountaineer accessories? I don't have ac or power brakes or power steering in my current setup.

Currently have a C4 trans, any issues with that?

I've done some reading but can find some real answers to my current questions

It should all switch right over with no problems. The dizzy vacuum advance get in contact with the front accessory setup but that's an easy fix.

Here's a link to a guy on here that has the front accessory off an explorer, samething, and what he did to get power steering to hook up. He is also running a c4 trans.

the truck already has a 87 302 installed running and driving!

I need to know about the 2001 motor will work or not with my current parts and accessories. also which parts I can use off the mountaineer.

From what I found, the distributor I have should work. Since my 87 would have been efi and was already converted to a carb and is a roller cam it should work with the 2001?

Should be an easy exchange from what you have onto the Explorer except for the headers. Should have the "P" heads on Explorer that causes problems with spark plugs and wires. Way around that, check the sticky up top on headers for some solutions. Not sure at all about adding PS but searching yards for the items.

That's what I was saying, everything that is currently on your truck should switch right over to the mountaineer engine.
