So I jumped the gun today and bought a 5.0 out of a 91 f150. 48k on it.
so I think I got the basic concept down of the swap but kind of stuck on the trans part. I think i'm going to end up use a 4spd out of a 79. Did't see anything on it in the tech library. Going to use a 4spd, I will have to make a trans x member but what about drive shafts? Will I need custom or what could I do? Allso would my 91 manifolds work?

If you're doing a 5.0 swap and have to ask about the driveshafts don't you think you're not ready?

First off, I'm assuming this is a 4wd? You mentioned driveshafts but nothing about a transfercase. What do you want to know about them? Do you want to know if you'll have to extend them?

U may can use stock crossmember. Or the f150 just botch for the f150 trans and cut to legnth if needed. Using the ford 4 speed. U either need internal hyd slave frm racing parts thats like 400 bucks if itl work on it. They use them on t5 setups. Or make a bracket and use pusher or puller external hyd slave as teddeyzee did. Along with others. Look up clutch setups in this forum itl help u with idea of what u need. As for driveshafts. I used 92 explorer reaer drive shaft and 84 f150 front driveshaft. Both was great fit. But im running r2 trans and np208 tcase. Good luck.

I'd be willing to bet the motor has more than 48k on it, and even if it does, its a non ho motor making minimal power, a stock 4.0 has more power than the 91 5.0. You will need to replace the intake, the truck intake won't fit even with a body lift. If 2wd, the M5ODR2 might be a better option for the overdrive. For 4wd, depending on tire size and use, the np205 May be the tcase of choice, although others are usable. Driveshafts depend on engine placement, trans type and tcase selection...

By 4 speed you mean an np435? I'm running one out of an 84, hydraulic, and love the granny low first gear but in return, low mpgs.

As said an m5od2 would be better for the overdrive. Also the np205 is more compact then the np208 but is also a heavy pig and doesn't have a good low range.

Now you can convert the engine to HO, like I did mine, with a HO cam swap but if staying FI, you will need an HO EFI setup.
