First time poster here. I have a question about a Bronco II I found on craigslist and want to see if its a good buy or not.

Link: https://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/cto/6060288715.html

I'm wanting to learn manual and have something to learn basic mechanics with and this looked like a nice start. Though I want to know if installing a computer is a large complicated job or if it is something I could possibly do myself? Any help would be appreciated!

Replacing the computer in that vehicle is very easy. The worst part of it is that the little metal trim strip that holds the carpet down in the door opening has to come out and those screws are usually stuck pretty good.

To replace the computer you take the metal strip out of the passenger door, then remove the kick panel from the passenger foot well. The computer is in there, it has a few phillips head screws and some 5.5 mm hex screws holding it in, and then the plug is held into it by a 10 mm hex head bolt. No programming or anything is required on these old units.

The EEC-4 of old are different than todays EMS, they are more like a part...it unbolts an either it works or not. There is no flashing or dealer only secrets or real time information. Its OBD-1, if you a lucky you can coax blinks out of it.

I theory all you need is 2.9l non-egr manual computer, but an auto computer would work.
The biggest question is can you undo any improvements the PO has done? Do you enjoy mysteries, is your time free?

If that engine has decent compression and most of the parts, I would totally do that as a project. Its a gen 1 with manual bits, they are very fun.

My credo
Well, that didn't work. Let's try something else!
Looks like a solid place to start to me. Welcome to the ranger station.

I'd be all over that if it was close to me. Especially the rust free part.

Just because he says it is the computer it may not be the computer either.

Might be a ground issue or a sensor messing up.
