so the other day, i'm pulling into the gas station to pick up a pack of smokes and bingo, i lose drive so i coast into my parking spot, go in, get my smokes, get back in the truck, put it in 2nd gear and go home.
i then look in my manual, learn that the 4R44E is the stock transmission in my '97 XLT 2.3L. so i start calling around yards and find a transmission for $400, i ask the guy if it's a 4R44E and he says no, it's an A4LD, that's what's in your truck.
so here's my thinking, $400 is the cheapest i've found around here, a whole lot better than the 4R44E i found for $600. but if the A4LD is mechanically identical to the 4R44E, will it be able to swap in without much of a problem? or is putting an A4LD in asking for a whole lot more problems?
goddam automatic transmissions
