I have been contemplating a transverse leaf rear end on my Ranger and was wondering what thoughts or advice you guys had. How should I go about it? What should I do or not do? Any considerations? Would I be able to do this with the Ford 8.8 independent rear axle from an explorer? Should I go Dana 44 instead? Thoughts please.

I wasn't sure whether to post this here (because it may take some fabrication) or in the Mini-Truck section, so you can find an identical post there as well.

I've decided to leave this here and delete the other one.
I believe corvettes had a transverse leaf independent rear setup, you might want to check there for ideas. Also I think gwaii had a transverse setup but I can't remember which thread and if it was front or rear axle.

Vettes did have a transverse leaf. I'm not sure what years, but it seems up through at least the c4

Basically I am looking for a form of Independent rear that I can do with leaf springs. If you guys have any ideas for anything a little stiffer than transverse, let me know.

Assuming the pumpkin mounted solid;
Cut the leaf in half and mount solid to the frame with links to control outer.
Use two half leaves mounted above and below frame. -gets rid of links.

By the way, neither of these is my original idea but is stuff I've run across on the web. Sorry, I have no links or know how well these ideas worked.
