So I'm leaking oil pretty quickly but only when the engine is running. It seems to be along the edge of my valve cover and down the back of the engine (or where the transmission meets the engine). I have a feeling it's my valve cover gasket but could it also be something else?

more than likely the valve cover gaskets. could be lower intake, but probably not likely.

I agree, valve cover is the most likely suspect.

The lower intake is mostly splash damage as far as leaks go. Meaning that oil splashes against the seal, but the valley is deep enough that you should never have any quantity sitting against it. But the top of the head is shallow and oil does sit there when the engine is running while it waits to run back to the pan.

thanks

Thanks for the input. i just really wasn't sure. i do most of the work myself but there are still a lot of things I'm unfamiliar with (engine maintenance really).

If it is on the outside of bellhousing then could be valve cover but would have to be a very big hole to leak as described.

If it is coming out "where the transmission meets the engine" at the bottom then you have a failing Rear Main Seal on the crankshaft.
This PUMPS out oil anytime engine is on, major leak.
Transmission needs to be removed to install a new seal
