Hi gang. I’m pretty good at research but couldn’t find a cat that’s CA legal anywhere online except thru the dealer and they want $2700!! My truck is a 2011 2.3 auto. Even the carb legal ones say they’re not legal for sale or use in CA. What gives?! How can I get new cats for my truck? Both need to be replaced, unfortunately.

I don't have an answer to the original question, but am curious - why do they both need to be replaced?

Edit:
For what it's worth, the part number is 7L5Z-5E212-BA.

My mechanic said he tested them and they both need to be replaced. He also said the muffler needs to be replaced. I’m going to take the truck to a muffler shop to get a second opinion, tho.

Thanks for the link! That’s still crazy expensive but saves me a few hundred bucks if that’s what I need.

If they need to be replaced, it's critical to find out WHY. That isn't normal at all, especially on a truck that new.

It’s a newer truck but has almost 200k miles.

My 02 has over 231K miles on it and the last CA smog inspection showed the cats are still good. I know cats can go bad but it would be good to find out for sure if they are bad.
If you do need to replace them, talk to a muffler shop about it. They should be able to install cats. I hope so, I may need new cats someday.

Under normal use they should last just about forever. Get a second opinion.

How to buy a house somewhere that CA specific converters aren't an issue.

I was able to get the cats replaced thru my local muffler shop. I also did the muffler and tailpipe and the truck runs like it should.
