Early model side view mirror types

I wanted to know if anyone knows the compatibility of the bolt pattern of the simple black side view mirrors and longer chrome style.

I believe the small ones can go in place of the big ones, but not the other way around, because the lower mounting isn't there.

In my truck the door brace is there just there are no holes for bolts.

I believe the small ones can go in place of the big ones, but not the other way around, because the lower mounting isn't there.
You can put the big ones in place of the small ones, you will need the bracket inside of the door to go with the big ones.
I have done it once.
