What 7.5 tracklock fits?

I have an 06 XLT with the dreaded one wheel peel. It's at 66 k miles and I want to swap out the open end for an LSD. Will a Tracklock from an early 80s Mustang fit? Are they plentiful at the junkyard from a Ranger? I'm not interested in swapping the whole rear so an 8.8 is out. Are there any other cheap options?

If you're not making mistakes, you're not learning.
Why the aversion toward swapping rear axles? Putting in a new carrier is going to require re-setting up the gears. Which means $$$. Honestly it's cheaper and easier to swap the whole axle out for one with the same ratio and L/S. And again, I'm pretty sure Ranger L/S units are going to be much more plentiful than the early 80's Mustangs.

Seriously. 8 nuts for the u-bolts, 2 for the shocks, brake lines, e-brake cables, 4 bolts for the flange (12 point-12mm) and that's it... (well, an extra 4 bolts or so if you have a sway bar, but still). Easily done in an afternoon, no muss no fuss. No joke this is your cheapest, easiest option.

If you insist on replacing the carrier for an L/S unit I'd save your money and get a Detroit tru-trac torsen limited slip.

I've thought about swapping the whole rear assembly but ruled it out because I'm so anal that it would require a complete rebuild. The truck only has 60 k miles. I'm figuring on the cost of the diff and a rebuild kit for it and having a friend swap it and set up the gear.i have a bunch of friends with early stangs so finding one shouldn't be an issue. Plus there's always the junk yards. Thanks for the input tho.
Is there a for sale section on this forum?

If you are only swapping the carrier you dont need to set up gears. The carriers are machined to the same specs. Pay attention when you remove the carrier and mark parts. Put it back together the same way and you are done. Use a little gear marking compound if you really want to make sure and check it. The only time you get stuck setting up the gears is when you touch the pinion.

Mark, I kind of figured that it would be the same as the 8.8 in my mustangs as far as setting the gear up. Thanks for the confirmation tho.
