I have a 97 ranger that i have put a carbureted 302 with AOD trans. Hooking up an autometer monster tach, temp and oil pressure gauges. Wired the white back lights into the back of the fuse panel, tied into parking light fuse but have power to the back light always! I only want them to be lit up when i turn my lights onand be able to dim them. What would be my best way to wire them up?

I'll try to reword that a little. I wired the white wire that provides 12v power to the backlighting for the gauges. I am not good at all with electrical

Do you have the directions? If not here is a link to generic instructions.

http://www.autometer.com/media/manual/2650-219X.pdf

You need to find the light/dimmer switch on your truck and figure out what wire controls the dimmer lights for the dash/console then tap into that one.

What wire it is I can't help you there for I don't know.

Hope that helps a bit.

I need to locate the dimmer control module and connect after that. Any idea where that is?

Sorry, I can't help you there. all my vehicles are older than yours. You have a wiring diagram for your dash?

I am sure some one will be able to give you more info.

cheers

Yes i have a Haynes manual, i think there is a misprint on the wire color codes in the manual. But I'll keep at it and hopefully get it working right.
