Sorry for another header thread - I've searched, and I know there have been many, but I just couldn't figure out a clear answer.
Looking for a bit of advice on header fitment for an 86 2wd Ranger. Has a 302 with GT40P heads and an AOD. I bought it with the swap completed - so I'm a bit vague on the details of the motor mounts used. It also came with a bit of an exhaust leak out the passenger side (flange where manifold and mid-pipe come together). It had the tubular Explorer manifolds on there, but since I'm going to have to have a new flange welded to the midpipe, I figured I'd just go with a set of headers.
So.. I've read, and read, and read - and I'm still not quite sure what the best option is.
From what I gather, a set of Tri-Y's can be made to fit around the AOD with a bit of tweaking. But will they clear the spark plugs on the GT40Ps? The plug wires are already 90° boots, so they're tucked in there pretty well.
I'm not opposed to just doing a set of shortys (or Torque Monster, if they were still in production) - but it seems that all the shortys on the market are designed to be used with a specific set of motor/trans mounts.
If anyone has any advice, it would be much appreciated.
