I just bought my second Ranger. The first one was a 83 or 84 that I bought new for my machine shop delivery truck. When I no longer needed it for that I drove it myself for a couple of years until it burned a valve. Having got tired of the underpowered 2.0 liter I dropped in a turbocharged 2.3 from a Thunderbird.
Had a lot of fun with that truck. That 250 hp in a little truck was a real sleeper.

I just bought a 98 with only 110000 miles and no rust to pull behind my motorhome.

Howdy and welcome to TRS~!

Yes, the 2.0 was a bit under powered so I can only imagine the difference with a turbo. I was heading that way myself but stopped because I'm certified idiot material with too much power.

Did you get the 2.5 in the 98 or move up to the big league?

I'm older now and maybe wiser. I don't seem to want to race anybody anymore. :) I just went for a 2.5

Good motors!

If it's an automatic they have a tendency to break easier than the 5 speed but the M5OD is pretty much bullet proof. My first one was in the truck for the 14 years I drove it and had 450,000 km on it and still going strong when I scrapped it.

I'd imagine you are familiar with that transmission from the turbo experience though.
