Hello All,

I have a 2002 ranger 2.3l 2wd manual transmission. The engine is blown in it.

I can get a 2.3l engine from a 1993 ranger 4x4 also manual transmission.

Will a 93 engine fit in my 02? will it match up to the transmission or should I get both engine and transmission, in that case would the drive shaft have to be change?

the engine letter in the 93 VIN is A and in the 02 it is D.

Any assistance would be a great help.

I figured that was the case, but that doesn't really answer any of my questions.

How exactly are they different?
What would I have to alter to make it work?

keep in mind I can get the transmission as well.

A search of the forum would have answered your question. To swap the engine out you would need a different transmission, wiring harness, motor mounts....ect. Not feasible to do. Completely different. Find the right motor for the vehicle.

Seriously? fine.

1. they are different in that they are 2 engines which have nothing in common besides displacement. basically like comparing a 350 to a 302

2. you would have to alter everything that has to deal with the engine.

In a nutshell its pointless to do it. the amount of work required far exceeds the benefits, partly because there are no benefits.

the trans is the only thing you could swap over basically

02 has the Duratec which is a 16 valve DOHC engine, is chain-timed and is all-aluminum, the 2.3 from a 93 is a Lima 8 valve SOHC belt-timed and all-iron.
