The ol' 53 pickup is having some issues and I don't feel comfortable driving it on the road. I was going to get a trailer to tow it up to the CC. Here's my question, the trucks an 08 SuperCrew 4.6 2wd. Will it be able to tow a 5000lb+ truck? If not I can use my buddys Cummins diesel.

EDIT: I believe the truck has 3.55's open rear end.

Easily. But a '53 Ford doesn't weigh anything like 5000#. That's maybe the GVW. That probably weighs 3,500# or thereabouts and on a trailer you are looking at a total weight in the 5,000-5,500# area.

my 06 v6 f150 is rated at around 5600lbs with the 3.55 gears.... so it could tow it

Ya, the 4.6 is a good engine but I towed a PT cruiser the other day and it did alright. Rear end didn't sag too much. I just didn't want to put too much "stress" on the truck. 1. being it's my old man's and not mine. 2. Because it has 10,000 miles on it.

10,000 miles is broken in. It's only like the first 1000 or something like that, that you aren't supposed to tow. Just keep it out of overdrive and you'll be ok
