first off, a4ld behind my 2.9 is starting to slip, so came online and been reading about trannies, swaps, and differences for a while now. i know its time to start looking into replacing my tranny.
plan to do a 4.0l swap when 2.9 starts dieing, only has 100,000 miles on it right now, no problems. so for now, trying to figure out what to do with the tranny replacement with a 4.0 in mind for the future. mainly a dd, but i do some wheeling on the weekends when i can, nothing super crazy...yet.
my options:
-rebuild current a4ld (would it really be worth it?)
-replace with explorer (4.0) a4ld (junkyard finds can be cheap, but high miles)
-replace with 5spd m50d (lots of fab work that i dont know how to do)
other things to note, low on funds (arent we all), not the greatest mechanic (rely on my friend for alot, but i do most of the work), my tool selection is limited (the bronco is the first vehicle i've ever worked on), lots of determinition and drive!
looking for some input on what i should do.
i would love to have a 5spd car again, i'm just worried if i start a swap, i'll run into a roadblock that i wont have the knowledge to complete and have to take it to a shop to repair ($$$). also heard you can build the a4ld to mimic a manuel tranny and keep it in power curves without shifting. is that bs or legit?
thanks for any help!
