Hi all. I've always perferred the tri-color amber/red/white tails to the newer red/white ones. My question is wiring. The gen 3s use a 2 wire turn and a 3 wire stop/tail. While the new ones use a 3 wire for all 3 functions. If i split my stop/turn wire, ill feed 2 bulbs at once - not what i want.
Any suggestions to get around this?
Thanks

I've thought about using a trailer wiring converter, but that does the opposite, I'm not sure if it would work in reverse.

PlumCrazy posted a trailer wiring fix in my post on going from 3 bulbs (brake/park, turn, reverse) setup to work with my 2 bulb lenses.

His solution is similar to others that I found on the web and I was going to do that but decided to stick with the three bulb config.

The first gen lenses that I have use a clear reverse lense and I can put the turn signal in there with a amber bulb, use the brake tail bulb in the top and put the reverse lamps on or under the rear bumper (don't have one right now)...

Instead of altering the wiring...

Check out the diagram from Plum if you are considering the alteration...it does require some soldering to work but I could manage that...

Not a bad idea. Thanks Mark! I'll check out that diagram too.

Hope that helps...I just read your original post though and realized you were dealing with a slightly different setup...

I would imagine you have only two bulbs at this point and the problem is the number of wires on the harness...not sure if that would work the same way and I haven't actually researched that setup...might work but now I see that it is not the same...

Sorry if that leads you nowhere but the diagram might help regardless...:)

Hey guys just fyi the taillight harness disconnects on the driver framerail under the bed and you can plug the harness from the previous years into it.

I've had all kinds of taillight styles on my many past rangers, and I just unplugged the whole rear light wire section from the junkyard for $5 to switch a 2000 stop/turn-red/red to the 93-97 amber turn tails. The rangers chassis plug has all the pins for either sub harness to be used.

(this applies to 93+, I am not sure of the wiring interchange on the previous square body rangers)
