I do know where the computer lives in that truck, and I am inclined to agree with Rusty's assessment. The coolant likely got inside and did some damage to the electronics.

I have a 3.0 FFV automatic ECU in the garage. Waiting on the OP to see what engine he's working with.

I have a 3.0 Flex Fuel 4x4 Automatic. I’ve heard horror stories about people buying rebuilt PCMs and sending their old one back and getting screwed out of money. I was just thinking about sending mine in to get rebuilt rather than buying a rebuilt. Problem is it’s takes more money to get it rebuilt than to buy a rebuilt one. I can find rebuilt PCMs for $150-$200 or pay $400 to get mine rebuilt.

Take one shot for every time I said rebuilt.

Theres always hope, it just depends on the effort, time, and money youre willing to invest to realize that hope :icon_thumby:

Rustys inspirational quote of the day:D

But in all seriousness, i doubt its anything worth junking the truck over.
Ever since I got my new car everyone’s been telling me to get rid of the ranger, they just don’t understand. Got it with 18 miles on it, a month later it has 3200 miles. I couldn’t afford to keep using my ranger as a daily driver.

I have unseen plans for this truck, plus it’s cheap to keep.

My ecu should be perfect for you. Truck was fine when I pulled the engine other than a loss of compression that led to starting the V8 swap. How about I ship it to you to test for the cost of shipping, and $75 if it works and you want to keep it?

I thought computer cores had to be reprogrammed with the VIN.

You'd need to program your keys in either with forscan or paying someone to do it.

If anyone still wondering. I pulled the PCM, it had a nice coating of coolant on the case and harness. The inside was dirty but it looked like just regular dirt and dust. Didn’t clean anything just wiped off the case. Plugged it back in and the truck kinda ran ok, it stalled at first then continued running. It was able to roll forward in drive and accelerate when given gas. Might still get the PCM rebuilt along with the rest of the engine.

Guess a car is just like any other electronic, just have to unplug and plug back in to get things working.

I got a feeling changing it will make everything good again.]
