I have a 05 ext cab 4x4 and have always had a drive shaft clunk and vibration. My friend has a newer Ranger ext cab 4x4 and it has a steel driveshaft. He has no clunk or vibration. Would a steel drive shaft help my problem? What year did they switch over and why? Will a newer one fit an 05?
Thanks for any help.

The material used in the construction of the shaft is not the issue. You either have a worn out u-joint, or you need to re-grease the slip-yoke in the middle of the shaft.

I thought I read that the clunk was caused by the slip yoke not being greased correctly. Didn't Ford have a technical note about that?

Ok, let me expand on my original answer. Pre-98 supercab. Regular cabs are short enough to not need one.

There was a bulletin about it.

That or pinion bearing....my F150 always had that kinda "clunk" due to the pinion bearing
