ok so I started my truck up this morning and smelt gas, I poped the hood and there was fuel leaking from where the header meets the block. I turned off the motor and when i started it back up there was no leak. anybody know what this might be?

Might be time to ease off the peyote.:icon_rofl:

Is the fuel rail bleeder valve good? There's no other way I can imagine that it could leak one second then be fine the next.

Leaking injector and a bad exhaust manifold gasket could do that.

maybe the injector on that cylinder was stuck open from trash in it, or it's just going bad, and it let the fuel in the rail empty into that cylinder....keep an eye on it every morning to see it it does it again...

If the injector leaks enough fuel into the cylinder and fouls the plug, then yeah, it won't fire and blow the fuel out of the exhaust valve, thus leaking out the manifold gasket. Then when the engine warms up it will evaporate or burn off and appear to have stopped leaking. :icon_thumby:

Wow I hope that isn't what it is. You guys do realize that if that's the problem every time he shuts it off he has a 1 in 6 chance of hydro-locking the engine.

lol, yup. It's the best answer I can come up with. A leaking fuel line, pressure regulator, regulator vacuum line or various other things could cause it too though but those would be too obvious since they would drip or spray.

If that is actually the problem, no, you do not have to replace ALL of them. Pull the fuel rail and leave the lines connected to it but no wiring. Turn your key to the On position but don't crank the engine over. This will pressurize the fuel rail. If any are leaking it will be immediately obvious, so just replace the ones that are bad. I'd suggest replacing the o-rings on the rest while you have it apart.
