If I add 1.5 inch coil spring do I have to have bigger shocks?

I have been told by so many suspension installers that if you go 2 inches and higher, then yes. But for 1 inch to 1 1/2 inch, no. If your shocks are really old and you are putting in brand new springs than put in new shocks to make the suspension match.
