My bracket that indicated timing on the harmonic balancer is missing. I need photos of what it looks like so I can either replace it or build my own.

Help please!!!!

As I recall, my '99 doesn't use a bracket. There's a mark on the block casting behind the pulley for reference against the marks on the balancer. Not sure if it's different on the '93.

My 95 has a pointer but I can't take a pic till later in the week. (It is a little to the left of the top of the dampener)
You might want to find TDC with the No. 1 plug out of the hole and see if you can figure out where the pointer will go.

yes, the truck is a 93 and the engine is an 06 from a Taurus. I kept the front cover from my 93 but the timing indicator is LONG gone.

it's been a long time since I have post here and a LOT has changed on my truck since then but that is subject for a new thread

I've looked around everywhere but no clear photos. I'll have to goto the salvage yard i suppose... the good ones are all the way over in Houston.

Sorry, I thought my Ranger had a pointer, but I was wrong. Looked at the wife's Taurus and no pointer there either.
Why do you want one? I haven't needed one yet - except on my 4.0.

Just wanted something to point the way while using a timing light. I have a 3.0 torn down on my engine stand now. I can fabricate something to use and base it on the piston at TDC. mark the harmonic balancer using my timing pointer.

All I remember from WAY back is that I used to have one when all was a stock 93...

Still curious, what are you using the timing light to accomplish on a 3.0?

The older 3.0 Rangers had a distributor. To set the base timing you have to disconnect the SPOUT and use the timing strobe. Unfortunately when I changed engines to the FFV I kept the FFV harmonic balancer. It doesn't have timing marks since it used a crank and cam position sensors. Although in the past I have simply used as much advance as the fuel would allow without spark knocking.

Okay, that explains everything. Thanks for clarifying.

Like you said in the previous post, the most obvious solution seems to be bringing it to TDC and then making your own pointer. Wish I had a better answer to offer.

Edit... my FFV balancer definitely has timing marks on it. Are you absolutely sure yours doesn't?

They may be there... I see that yours were "hidden" from view... rusty.... I'll check it out closer. I do have a balancer off my donor engine that I can look at more closely.

After the CPS install with toothed wheel I doubt much interest remained for marks. I did paint the flywheel marks, just not the engine block lug mark which you can see looking closely.
