It'll probably take me a week or so to get back to my ford discs, but I'll try to get the pinout for the 36 pin connector...

I think I got it sorted out. I am not 100% sure as I have not cleared the codes and checked it through a heat cycle just yet. I finished it about 30 minutes ago and I am pretty sure it is correct. Here is what I found. I thought C171 was the up stream driver side O2 and C172 was the up stream passenger side O2. I could not locate two wires in the trans harness for C172. I checked the driver side O2 plug and found the wire colors matched C172. I went back and checked the trans harness and found the correct wires for C171. So I went ahead and wired the passenger side for C171. If I understand correctly, the driver side O2 plug is part of the engine harness and the passenger side upstream O2 plug is part of the trans harness extension. If that is correct my connections should be installed properly. The only thing that could be incorrect is if I got the wires for the down stream O2 my mistake, C142?

All connections were checked for continuity to the appropriate ECM PIN #.

Passenger side up stream O2, C171:

34 LB/OG ECM PIN #?. I can't remember the ECM PIN for this one.

387 RD/WH. ECM PIN #93

89 OG. ECM PIN #91 (I used 359 GY/RD wires but the 89 OG wires are present in the tran harness as well. Both show continuity back to ECM PIN #91). The EVTM shows PIN 91 as 359 GY/RD

74 GY/LB. ECM PIN #60

Driver side upstream O2 is part of the engine harness, and travels along the bellhousing where it bolts to the engine. Circuit 34, I'm not seeing a color or circuit number matching that for the O2 circuits...

Circuit 34 is described as "Voltage supplied in Start and Run". Pin #1 on all the O2 plugs. LB/OG.

Yep, you are right. After I thought about it last night I remembered I had pulled the driver side O2 plug and checked continuity for circuit 34. I matched the pin on the driver side O2 to the correct wire in the trans harness for circuit 34. I thought I was going to have to tap into the 42 pin connector but the line was already there in the trans harness. It was just a question of finding it. So the short answer is, I was wrong, circuit 34 is not found on the ECM PIN out.

By the way Rick, do you have any suggestions for setting up my factory tach to read properly? I followed the guide lines in the sticky thread suggesting a ground wire on the 16 pin connector but that didn't work for my application. The tach still reads high.

99 V6 auto, flex fuel.

There's 3 different settings for the tach, a ground (BK/Y) in the location in the 12 pin is the V6 setting, the ground removed from the 12 pin and moved to the 16 pin is the V8 setting, no ground in either slot is the 4 cylinder setting. It may not be exact, but shouldn't be more than a couple hundred off...

Thank you Sir, I will give that a try ASAP. Just to be clear, I am only moving one wire on the same pin connector to a different pin slot?

I may have misunderstood, did you mean moving the BK/Y wire from the 12 pin connector over to the 16 pin connector? If so which slot? I presume from other articles I have read that it will be the last slot on the 16 pin connector.

The BK/Y from pin 8 (iirc) of the 12 pin is moved to pin 16 of the 16 pin. I covered this in detail of the trac swap, post 1...

Good deal. I got it now. Thanks again for all the help. It's funny, 4 years ago I bookmarked your user name. I knew we would be talking at some point down the road. You have been a big help.

Glad I can help. Even though I have a shop to do these kind of swaps, I encourage others to learn and try it themselves. There's no better feeling of accomplishment than completing a project yourself...

So true, I have learned so much along the way. Much of the work I have performed during my swap has been the first time for me for such tasks. I could have never done it with out the help of forum members here.
