...So I bought this 2003 xlt 4.0 4x4 automatic about 2 months back. My house and job are located just off the highway so it's easy to accurately calculate fuel consumption. I travel the same route daily. 100 km/h (62 mph)..and it's 25 miles one way.
...when I first got the truck I was averaging 18 mpg. Did the airbox mod and it jumped to a consistent 20 mpg. 19.90-20.20 always in that range. I sprayed the maf sensor today with some motocraft tune up cleaner and hit the elements a good 12 times and let it air dry for a half hour before installing it.
....Took it out to see if it made a difference. Made 2 runs back to back. First one..21.83 mpg. Second one..22.10 mpg. The engine feels less " choked up " and more eager to rev.
...My girlfriend's 2015 tacoma 4x4 4 cylinder " standard " is getting about 2 mpg better than this 4.0 automatic. But her Toyota is a 159 hp slug. We are both running identical size winter tires.
