Trying to get the heads pulled off a '97 Ford Ranger 4.0

EGR pipe/tube going toward rear appears to be blocking access to the bottom/rear stud/nut of the exhaust manifold. I can get my fingers on it, but can't do a dang thing.

Someone have some sort of socket/wrench configuration that might work? The other studs weren't all that bad to get loose.

EGR tube is completely rusted and there's no leverage to even remove it.

Ideas?

Thanks

Remove collector pipe and pull exhaust manifold with head, had to do that on a few 4.0ls, with rusted bolts

^That^. That is how I do all heads, because the exhaust manifold gives you a nice big handle to grab on to. The biggest problem I have removing most heads is finding a good place to grab them to pick up once the bolts are out.

I don't know how you guys get the down pipes/collectors off either, rusty up stuff with no access either?

After a handful of heat/cold cycles and going through the wheel well I finally was able to get the egr tube off and get the final stud out. I bet I spent three hours working on that d*mn thing.

I try to never spend any time on exhaust bolts.

If vehicle is driveable I drop it at exhaust shop and tell them what I am doing, i.e. pulling the heads or ??

Then pay the $40-$80 for them to remove and snug back up all the bolts, nuts and studs on the exhaust system and replace any broken ones.
Takes them less than an hour for sure, and they have all the spare parts and tools to get it done.

If vehicle isn't driveable I cut/drill things off, lol.
