I installed the electric cooling fan from a Volvo 850/S70 because they are 2 speed fans and have a shroud that is easy to trim to fit the 4.0 radiator. The Volvo fan is 16 inches across and the 4.0 rad. is 18 inches wide. I wanted to use as much of the original mounting hardware as possible

Here's the Volvo fan with shroud uncut next to the Ford radiator.

Make sure you get the Volvo relay--it makes this job very easy.

There is 5 inches of clearance from the radiator to the front of the waterpump, so the shroud must be trimmed down. I used a circular saw for most of the big cuts and a hacksaw for the finer work.

I decided the Volvo shroud fit best by turning it sideways on the radiator. I cut off the bottom section and then trimmed about a 1 1/2 inch section from the piece I cut off to insert at the bottom of the shroud. This provided a lip to engage the original clips on the bottom of the radiator and closed up the gap from the cut.

Testing the fan and radiator clearance and I have a little over 1/2 inch to the waterpump--plenty of space.

To attach the top of the shroud, I bent the aluminum on the radiator back 90 degrees and used the original spring clip nuts and bolts.

I'm going to temporarily connect the Hi/Lo speed wires to switches. Eventually, I am going to take an extra thermostat housing I have and get a fitting brazed into the pipe for a BMW temperature sensor that has both Hi/Lo temp. capability. Then I can eliminate the switches.

All my #s are on another comp, but I have them. You also need the BMW wires and cap that are on the sender. It has a 14MM thread. My thermostat housing had a blank hole on the top and I used a sparkplug thread chaser to thread it. No need to go all the way through.

Got the sender from Rockauto but had to order the wires/cap from a BMW dealer.

I've got the numbers already. I ran across a link to a thread on another board with all the information a few weeks ago. I had completely forgot about this thread till it was bumped.

Here's the list of parts I found in that thread.
#61318361787--BMW temp switch 180*/195*
#61311378073--BMW temp switch 195*/210*
#61131378412--BMW 90* angle connector
#61130007445--BMW 90* green connector wires 2 required
#61130007446--BMW 90* green/black connector wire for ground
#1398845--------VOLVO dual fan relay, sorry no info on connectors(YET) except for the wires coming out for the temp switch high/low. Mine were completely disintegrated so I ordered 2 new wire assemblies and stuck them in the old connector.
#3523813--------VOLVO white wire assembly for temp switch 2 required.

Brass hex head bushing, use for BMW temp sender. All you have to do is tap it with a 14mm x 1.5 tap. This brass fitting is short and no need to drill out just tap it.

I got this information from http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=200028

Yep, pretty good thread but it took some time sifting through it all for just the correct info.

I got the relay on Ebay complete with the wiring and connectors.

Sender cap and wires from Bavarian Motorsports.

I liked it so much on the Ranger that I am going to do it to my BII also. Thanks guys for finding the BMW sensor part numbers so I can make it completely automatic this time. I bought my fan from wrench-a-part for $22.00 this time around.
