I wished to ask if a 8.8 Rear Differential from a 1994 Ranger 4.0 or Mazda B-4000 will directly bolt into a 1991 Ford Ranger Extended Cab 2 Wheel Drive?

I am gathering parts for my 91 Ford Ranger Extended Cab 2 Wheel Drive Project as I already have the 2.73 Gear Set and a Posi Unit for an 8.8.

Thank You for Any Help.

Yes. It should not matter if it is a 7.5 or a 28 spline 8.8. Explorer rear axles (8.8 31 spline) will not bolt directly in.

The internals of a 28 spline 8.8 are the same between '91 and '94 but the '94 axle is wider, hats the only difference

I am pretty positive that the current differential in the 91 Ranger extended Cab 4 Cylinder is a 7.5 and wish to bolt in a 94 Ranger 8.8 differential with little fuss?

As I understand it I think the 8.8 is 2" overall wider than the 91? And if so will the 1" difference per side present a problem?

Thank You.

No problems. Only potential issue may be the rear driveshaft flange.....2.73s? that's a very uncommon ratio in the trucks. Are you sure you don't have 3.73s??

The Gear Set is from a Mustang 8.8 as well as a posi unit. I plan to do a Diesel transplant. :)

Currently in the 94 Ranger 8.8 Differential I have 3.27 Gears.

I plan to use the truck for mainly transportation and working out of and of Course Hunting. So will probably upgrade the spring rates a bit and maybe some kind of small lift for a bit larger tires down the road for light off road use. Mainly in case it rains and I end up having to go through 20 or so Miles of Mud Road to get back to civilization lol.

I might be interested in another good 5 Speed lol. Down here in South TEXAS they seem to be rare and expensive for some odd reason.
