I am looking to put a 4.0l ohv in place of the blown 2.9l in my 1990 Ranger. I have found another 1990 Ranger on the cheap with a running 4.0l (and bad transmission.)

Both my Ranger and the possible donor are 4WD automatics, but mine has the electronic transfer case and the donor has a manually operated transfer case.

Is this still a good choice for an easy swap, or will the difference cause problems? Thanks in advance for any help!

That other Ranger is a wonderful choice of donor for your truck. Just keep your working trans, use everything else from the other truck.

Thanks ADSM. I will have to remember to give you more reputation once I have spread some around a little. Just to clarify, I would like to keep my electronic transfer case as well. Is that easily doable?

Is there an advantage to switching to the manual transfer case?

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!

You can use either T-case. The manual is preferred because it will never let you down. Just pull it into gear and go.
