with the tuner, it will tell the injectors to not spray as long/ hard?

With the tuner, you put in the size injectors and it compensates for you. One hung that is very important running a MAF system is you need to pipe your blow off valve back into the intake between the MAF and turbo. Otherwise the computer will read the air being blow out as air goin into the motor and you will way over rich the system when you shift/let off.

Also with the tuner you will need the license for a tuning program, I am using binary editor. It is $100.

As for pistons, if you want good response and decent fuel mileage I suggest flat tops. I am going to be using the esslinger long rod kit when I rebuild mine.

The only downside is boost is limited with the flat tops, but you will still be able to make he same power. If you don't keep boost down around 10-12 psi max you will make more power than the trans can handle.

I was thinking about 14 psi, and that kind of sucks maybe ill try and find a free tuning program. $1300 is pushing my budget as is and the $500+ isn't going to help, how long could I run on stick internals?

With the stock pistons, anything over 6 or 8 psi will grenade them. Its not pretty.

That's why most people use a turbo coupe. You can find a running car for 500-$1000 and pull the motor ecu and harness (for the plugs and sensors you will need) then scrap the body.

Like I said, I'm pushing about 200hp (probably closer to 175, but I have no idea, it does what I need), and even with rebuilding my engine I'm into it about $1000... before the rebuild I was pushing 16psi, during the rebuild I ported the head and that went down to 12psi (it's ingesting more air instead of building pressure).

As far as the transmission Mike, what lets go? I've abused mine more than anyone should and it was fine :), first gear low range with 15k pounds behind the truck, enough power to twist an explorer axle tube in the pumpkin, bend a leaf spring and bend a drive shaft...

I'm not sure what exactly fails but I have never heard of anyone putting down over 250 successfully with the stock ranger trans

How does the turbo hold up? Would you reccomend it? What kind of boost did it make?

When I bought it I thought it came with the 14 psi spring, but it only had a 6lb. If you plan on running a boost controller its not an issue though. I didn't run it extremely long, but it worked well! Other than the support straps fell off its a nice kit. I just welded a piece of mild steel in and added some more support to the waste gate. Mine is currently sitting in boxes, as I pulled it off to build a badazz na, then ran out of money. I would offer to sell you mine, but I'm about to save up for an esslinger long rod kit and put it back on my mustang, or maybe the ranger. Plus I put $1300 into mine and didn't even do a good rebuild. It will Nicole and dime you to death before all is said and done.

Oh, and the header bolts were too long and I had to cut them down.

Well I'll definetly keep it in mind I might go with the eBay kit (words I never thought I say) it will be mid next month before I can afford it now though

I still haven't found what pistons I want yet though.

I'm going to post some pictures of the build when I can
