I have a 89 Bronco2 with the usual dead A4LD tranny(3rd failure). I have a 98 F150 with a good 4.2L engine and 4R70W tranny. As I am tired of changing and rebuilding the A4ld, how would the 4.2L engine fit inside the Bronco2?

The tech section really talked about the 3.8L engine, but nothing about the 4.2L as for intake clearance. Has anybody done the newer 4.2L swap before?

The wire issue is not a problem for me as I have rebuilt several wire harness' for my vehicles before.

The 4.2 is a 3.8. But the tec page I think is a genral swap idea. You could always put a carb on it...that may work. Or you could swap in a 4.0 swap with a manual trans.

I think the point here is that he is sick of the A4LD, not the 2.9, and wants to keep an auto.

IMO the 4.2 is not worth the trouble, although the 4R70W is a stout transmission. I'd take a 5.0 for that setup before a 4.2, but if it's what you have it's what you have.

Yep want to rid the A4LD tranny problems
As I have a 98 F150 with the 4.2L/4R70W setup fully functional I'm looking into using it in my B2. I got to get rid of the 98 F150 and slim down my "pick-a-part" vehicles.

I rebuilt the 2.9L engine, rebuilt the A4LD twice and sick of pulling it out!

I would go manual tranny, but when I rebuild the B2 for my 15yr old Daughter to drive, she will not learn the manual...sux, I rather use a manual tranny, kids now days....

302/AOD option is still there, but I have to rebuild the wore out 302 I have.
Another option I'm looking at is, making up a adaptor plate so I can use the AOD behind the 2.9L
