So, I have a '99 3.0 5speed ranger 4wd 8th vin#-v (flex fuel). I've had 3 of these trucks and came to a conclusion that this motor is pretty much a turd! Lol Started some research, first thing pops up is 5.0! 5.0! Put a 5.0 in it!! Well then I bumped into the 3.4 sho v8.. Cam gear comes loose from cam but can be welded or pinned (I don't mind that)... Roughly 235hp.. Around 230lbf•ft... 60 degree bell housing pattern.. (Same as the Vulcan). But I THINK only transverse motor.. Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm still learnin) and I also noticed I can't find this swap on YouTube or anything bc everyone's hopped up about the 5.0. I like different. So can anyone please tell me what some problems would be? Or maybe someone in the world that has done this swap help, send pics? anything would be awesome! Thanks!

There was a build on pirate of a guy shoving one in an explorer I believe. Can't remember the details or find the info right now

The SHO 3.0l/3.2l(V6) might be a better choice, 220bhp from either, 3.2l has a bit more torque, I believe it is the same Vulcan block, so tranny/engine should mate, as will motor mount alignment.

3.0l SHO was used from 1989-1995
3.2 SHO was used from 1993-1995

Thanks for the feedback! I'm new to the forum and might be thinkin about just doin a motor swap like that in a '91 2wd ranger I got sittin around.. Just for the reason that I wouldn't have anything to drive to get to work everyday if I tear my '99 4x4 apart (especially during winter!)
