So I picked up this B2 on the cheap and it has a rebuilt engine and trans. Unfortunately it is the type with the actual 2WD A4LD without the dummy case. The question I have is with parts a plenty at the local pick your junk places can this truck be converted to 4WD? Can the tail shaft be removed on the trans or do I have to find a complete 4WD trans to put in this (I would hate to waste a rebuilt trans).

I bought it mainly as a get around vehicle but I am not one to leave something alone.

Welcome to TRS :)

Most Automatics need a complete tear down(rebuild) to swap shafts, to change from 2WD to 4WD or visa versa, A4LD included.

IMO, you would be better off staying as is, and watch for 4WD B2 to come up for sale, then sell the 2WD.

Upgrading Rear Axle to Limited slip(L/S) is also an option for better traction.
