I have been putting off checking the fluids in my differential, transfer case and man. trans in my 87 4X4 2.9. It has 150.000+ mi. The rear diff was fine, the transfer case was almost 3/4 qt low. When I removed the fill plug on the side of the tranny, lube started gushing out so I put it back in but already had a huge puddle I got a plastic bowl and took the plug back out and it filled it up. I bet there was over a quart in the bowl, how could this happen? It appears the clutch has been changed and maybe they filled the tranny with it out?? I wondered why it has been harder to shift when cold and harder to get it into first when moving.
