My OHV engine from a 2000 explorer has what appears to be a felpro gasket between the lower intake manifold and the fuel rail. Was this most likely NOT a factory part? My rebuild kit has two paper gaskets with rubber seals. What I removed looks like a single thick gasket with compression limiters on the bolt holes. The two paper gaskets makes me think that the original part must have been a hard spacer plate that took a paper gasket on each side.

Any suggestions for how to move forward? replace the felpro with another thick gasket?

Pictures do help!

You are right. Pictures would be a big help.

Looks like a review of the Felpro product online may have answered my question. The buyer said that the single thicker spacer gasket is a much better solution than the oem spacer plate and top and bottom "paper" gaskets.

I have two motors and it appears that both of them have had the gaskets replaced with the single thicker plate+gasket combo. The part used was Felpro MS90732. I don't know what the OEM spacer plate looks like ( althought I can guess ) or was made of because in both engines, they were tossed when this gasket was replaced.

There are two images, one with a single felpro spacer is the thicker plate+gasket and the mahle image, showing two gaskets are rubber on paper and made to seal around a factory spacer plate

This explains why I read somewhere that there are double gaskets on the intake.
