Will the F150 M5OD-R2 bolt into a Ranger with the M5OD-R1HD?

I was looking online and apparently F150's used a very similar, but stronger M5OD-R2 transmission. If I ever break my transmission plowing snow and can get my hands on an M5OD-R2, would it bolt up in place of my M5OD-R1HD (4.0 SOHC and Borg Warner 1354 electric shift T-case)?

I actually thought recently that my transmission was starting to wear out. It chattered when shifting. Yesterday, I put new Mercon V ATF (takes almost 3 quarts) in and took it for a ride. What a difference! It shifts like new! I mention that incase any of you reading this have had the same issue.

No. The R2 is physically different, the R1 being about 7/8ths the size of an R2, and the bell housing pattern is drastically different, as are the splines on the input shaft. Since the bell on the M5OD is integral, cast as one piece with the case, you are SOL on that plan.

Solid Axle Swap 4x4
RuleBreaker used to have kits available to put the NP435 behind a 4.0....but the adaptor plate didnt clear the SOHC manifolds without modification.

The R1HD is no heavier than plain old R1....only difference is the extra mounting hole on the bell that allows for it to be bolted to the SOHC....and the added OSS in the extension housing.

Regear the axles if you want to take the stress off the trans....

I got 4.10's, but 31" tires. Next set of tires will probably be the stock size, about 28"-29".
