I'm doing a bit of an overhaul on the fuel system in my 1994 B4000. I was smelling fuel a bit near the engine bay and noticed that rodents chewed through my carbon canister and several hoses leading to it. So I replaced all of that stuff up front. I also installed a new fuel pump, which went fine but while I was working on that I found another issue.
The rubber supply/return/vapor lines that run along the frame rail from the filter to the tank are so dry rotted I was afraid they were going to crumble as I pulled them off the old pump. Given that I would not like to die a fiery death, I'd like to replace these lines. It looks like that assembly from Ford runs about $175 -- if I can even still get it (Ford part 9J279) - which is a bit more than I'd like to spend. Can I just use regular fuel injection hose (and Evap hose for the vapor line) and clamps for these three hoses instead of the fancy triple tube rubber with quick connects from Ford? Anyone know what size line I would need?
And if anyone knows a way to keep mice or rats from chewing on my engine bay, I'm all ears. I figured all the owls and hawks around here would keep them occupied but I guess not.
