Flywheel position

It was raining off and on when I pulled my motor outside, and the mark I made on the flywheel to remember its position came right off. I didn't find anything about it in my Chiltons manual. Is there a certain way it needs to go back on, or don't have to worry about it?

I believe that if there is a particular orientation then one bolt hole will be off to prevent any problems.

I don't think it really matters, you'll probably want to get the flywheel cut or replaced when you put it back together

It doesn't matter if you lost your mark. Ford had some engines that were externally balanced, and so it did matter if the flywheel went on a certain way, they all have asymmetrical bolt patterns so if only fits one way. Anything else doesn't matter.

Yes, +1 ^^^

Put fly wheel in place then start all bolts before tightening, if bolt holes don't line up then remove bolts and rotate flywheel on crank until all bolt holes line up

Okay thank you. I would think it would only fit on the correct way, but everyone always makes a big deal about marking the position.

Yea, I never have figured out why people make it out to be so critically important to mark it, because if you get it cut or if you buy a new one, you don't have a mark, since nobody says that it has to be marked a particular way. If it was that important, I would think that the stuff would come marked from the factory or have an asymmetrical bolt pattern, which means there is no need for your own mark.

Like my wife said after driving the car for many miles with the oil light ON, and toasting the engine.........
"hey if it was that important then they should have put a Buzzer or something as well.............."

No Buzzer on flywheel means OK to install it :)
