Was curious if anyone could give me an idea of what to expect out of these parts. From 2011 Ranger Sport. Had like 28000 miles on it when totaled. Motor 4.0? Rear end posi disc brakes? Seats that have the airbags and not deployed? 5 speed manual trans? Those are the things I am curious about. Many small parts I am not too concerned about. Want to know if I can make my money back and get the parts I want for my truck.

try looking the same parts up on car-parts.com that will give you an idea what the yards are trying to get. you probably won't be able to get their prices, good luck.

what city are you near?

Does it run and drive?

10 years ago I sold a 2.9 on a tire for $200.

7 years ago (wow, that went fast) I bought a nothing special late 80's 302 on a tire for $220. Still runs great.

Sometime between there I got an Explorer 8.8 with disks for $100 with springs that I had to pull myself.

If the thing moves to show they work you will probably get more out of it.

And it is one of those things you have to find the guy that wants it too, some will pay more than others.

More details of the wreck and pictures would help a lot. I am thinking that a truck of that year with that low mileage should be worth quite a bit. Like 700-1000 for the engine, 500 for trans, couple hundred for the seats, maybe another grand or two total for other parts. That's still quite a bit less than junkyards would charge and I know I wouldn't take much less.

I have yet to buy back a totaled vehicle and not come out ahead by a lot.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Lose the sheet metal and build a crawler buggy.

wow...

what would be the cost of finding a good 2008+ Ranger with a blown engine/ transmission?

but I would leave everything in the truck take videos of the truck driving around as is (proof that it runs) and go from there.

AJ

edit: nevermind on driving it around... the steering is borked...

but at least get a video of the engine running, try to get an identifying part of the engine in the video.

Jesus, that is a testament to modern safety engineering right there. I don't want to think about what a first gen or the driver would look like after that accident. Well, there are still a ton of good parts on it. How does it work financially? If insurance is going to pay off the loan (if you have one) and the buy back is cheap, I would go for it. Not worth it if you're just gonna break even or make very little.

I don't see any useable body parts there besides the drivers headlight and side marker, and maybe the back bumper which will limit the amount you can recoup. That means all you can really resell would be the drivetrain. I'd say $1500 for the engine/trans and everything associated with it, and another $200-$250 for the rear axle would probably be about top dollar. And you might have to sit on them for awhile to find the right buyer who is willing to pay those prices.

IF that were mine, I probably wouldn't mess with parting it. There just aren't enough useable parts left in that shell.

Rear bumper is good. Tailgate, bed liner, pretty much it body wise. I am using rear bumper, hitch, rear frame portion and possibly rear end so I can have disc brakes. Is the posi and has the better torsion bars. Rims n tires all good too and still usable. Also has 3 inch body lift kit in it. None of the airbags deployed so they are all good. Lots of misc small parts of course. Was not my truck originally.

looks like aftermarket wheels on it now, but being a Sport, did it come with 15" factory wheels?? the split spoke D style???

if "yes" then those wheels are special in they are 15" aluminum and will fit the 12" front brakes. they are worth a bit more than the older version (pre 2009) of that wheel which does not fit 12" front brakes.
