Wanting to add a fire extinguisher to my Ranger. How many of you carry one and how and where are they mounted? Mounted in cab or bed? Thanks for any feedback.

Cheap gray one behind the seat.

I keep one in both of my trucks, the one in my F-150 saved my bacon a week ago. A brush fire was turning into a grassfire... stupid little thing killed a 30' line of burning grass dead in its tracks. Total gamechanger in that ordeal, bought me time to get the disk put on the tractor and do a couple laps to make sure it stayed dead. I need to get another one to replace it now though.

If you are racing you probably want it somewhere you can reach from the seat. I figured mine would either be used for an engine fire or I got stuck and the exhaust is cooking off dried brush under the truck.

Good save on that one 85_Ranger! I want the extinguisher mounted securely and readily accessible but out of the way. Mine is an extended cab with rubber matting. Where to mount?

I carried one for a while but when it expired I didn't bother to recharge it or replace it...can't remember if it was rechargable or not.

I had mine in the cab so I could reach it quickly if needed...behind the passenger seat. They could save your life or someone that of someone else so I think they are a definite plus...thinking of getting one for the van but not sure where to mount it...not as many options in this vehicle that are handy to the driver seat.

Yes, I'd much rather have one and never need it than not have one and need it. Very inexpensive safety item.

"yay"

I have one behind the seat. '93 single cab. The extinguisher is not mounted. But it doesn't have room to move around. I have carried one in several vehicles over the years and never had to use them. But sure enough, if I don't carry one, the occasion will arise.

My Ranger is a standard cab, I keep it behind the seat between the two speaker boxes, nowhere for it to really go.

F-150 is stuffed under the back seat, the seat goes across the truck though unlike your jumpseats.

Mine are the disposable ones, and they do lose their charge, I just replaced the Ranger's a few months ago. Not knowing if it was really bad I left it sitting on the workbench figuring out what to do with it and after things tamed down I gave it a whirl... didn't do a thing. So the gauges don't lie either.

I'm thinking under the driver's seat in a pvc pipe sleeve to keep it stationary and from rolling around. When the blizzard slows down, I can go take a look to see if it will fit.

How did you get an F150 under the back seat of a ranger? I guess that's handy when you break down on the trail and have to go to town for parts. :D :icon_rofl:

It is even harder than it sounds when you have a standard cab Ranger. :icon_rofl:

I have one in my trail rig. It came with a mounting bracket that is screwed onto the bottom of the dash.

There are not many good spots to mount it, really. Waste of space behind the seats on the floor, I keep that area reserved for coolant, jackets, thermos or water jug maybe. Can't screw the bracket to the back of the cab because it's only single layer and the screws will go through. Passenger floor is acceptable although it's gotten kicked about a hundred times. Easy access was my other main concern.

Haven't bought any extinguishers yet. Still need to get some measurements from the truck.

In my f150 I mount between the drivers door and the seat. There may be enough room in the ranger for that depending on size of extinguisher. I've also mounted them above or below the stickshift on the hump [f150]
