I have a ford ranger xlt 3.0. I had to drive it up into an area of the state on Friday that is a little mountains and a lot stop and go. If you know VA then it was up near Fredericksburg and Lorton VA I had to drive in. I am use to flat road with small hills so I don't know if that put too much strain on my truck. When driving up there it was fine. When getting onto the interstate on the way home, you have to drop down to 25 and then get up to speed quickly to merge onto a very busy interstate and when doing this she hesitated a little and felt like she did not kick into gear at first. Once I got on she was doing good. My big problem came Sunday morning when I started her up and normally I get a big vroom and she is ready to go, today I started her and it was almost like she wanted to immediately cut off with a low low engine feel and sound (she did not cut off on me though). I turned her off and on a couple times and after starting her a third time everything seemed ok. Drove to the gas station and all was good/normal. Just trying to figure out what happened to cause that? I know she does not normally do the mountain steep hills and constant stop and slow go, but it worries me a little. Maybe dirt in the filter because I used WaWa gas then gased up while there at a Sunoco, so maybe the gas mix caused it?? Any ideas would really help because I am at a loss here.

I would check the easy stuff like a vacuum hose that came off or a bad vacuum line, check the basics like air filter, oil levels and what not. all my rangers have done random things at random times. seems like it would be something simple like a bad or loose line.

Has the cam Syncro been checked? Put a stethoscope on it.

Check for codes, even pending codes.
