In order to start, I must pump gas pedal quickly several time while cranking. Idles and runs GREAT once it starts. Any advice?

Need more information because pumping the pedal on a fuel injected engine does nothing but wear out the throttle cable. It is possible that the IAC valve is stuck closed or the ecu is not opening it and cycling the throttle lets enough air into the intake to allow it to start.

yes, more info.

On a fuel injected engine "pumping the gas pedal" just lets more air in, in the old carb days it added more fuel and air.

If gas pedal is pressed down all the way while cranking, fuel injectors will be shut off, just FYI

First do this:
Turn key on, count to 3, turn key off
Repeat this 2 more times, remember to count to 3
On 3rd time, do not touch gas pedal, but try to start engine

If engine starts normally and has the normal 1,100 cold idle then you have a leak in the fuel system

Your '92 requires approx. 35psi of fuel pressure at the fuel injectors to start, with a sealed fuel system this pressure will normally hold for months.
For safety reasons Ford has it set up that the fuel pump only runs for 2 seconds when key is turned on, it won't start again until engine starts.

Fuel pump running for 2 seconds only adds about 10psi of pressure.
If you have a pressure leak and 0psi to start with then turning key on once and then cranking will cause very hard starting.
If you turn the key on 3 times then you get 30psi of pressure and if pressure leak was the problem then engine would start normally.

Since you don't mention the smell of gas the leak could be a fuel injector but this would also cause lower MPG which you also don't mention.
Fuel Pressure regulator(FPR) on the engine sends fuel and pressure above 40psi back to gas tank, if this is leaking fuel then pressure will go to 0psi when engine is off.
The fuel pump has a check valve and rubber hose going to the top of the tank.
leaking rubber hose would cause loss of pressure when pump was off, so would a leaking check valve.
When pump is off check valve prevents fuel from flowing back into the tank, it is part of the pump not a separate piece.

RonD, thanks for the detail. I was looking for the same info this morning. You couldn't have made it easier.
