Doing the 4.oL swap and need to get a new ECM because the doner vehicle was an auto and my B2 is manual. Should I purchase a new one or get on from a salvage yard. The new ones are around $200 and I am confident that it will work. If I get it from a salvage yard how do I know if it will work? Any suggestion?

Get with AllanD and ask him. He may have what you need.

I actually have one from my 86 B2 manual (2.0L) and from the doner which is an auto explorer 4.0L. Maybe I can get a trade going or maybe sell it on ebay to pay for the one I need.

Thought B2's only came w a 2.9.

What tranny do u have behind it?

If u have one of the mitsubishi trannys, u might have problems down the road. I don't speak from expierience, but most say the fm145/146's won't hold up very long behind a 4.0. Molst use the M5OD that came out in the explorers and rangers. I have one in my other 90 B2.

I'm just going by what I've read and researched.

Yeah, a 4.0 will blow an FM to pieces quick.

I'd check with AllanD for a PCM as well, and if he hasn't got one, I'd pony up for a new one. That way you know its good, it has a warranty if it's not, and it will have the latest calibration.
