Howdy guys,

I’m trying to find the axle spline count on my 2011 Ford Ranger, before I take it apart. S# 1FTKR1AD2BPA9XXXX

Axle code 96 so I know it’s a 3.73 open. It is an XLT 2 wd 2.3L 5 speed manual 112 wb. Only options, cruise and alloy wheels

But here is the strange part, the tag on the axle is S312D and not listed anywhere I can find. The tube ext dia is 3.25” with factory disk brakes.

So I’m thinking it should be a 31 spline? Maybe?

Just wanted to know before I order my new LSD to put in before another PA winter.

Thanks,

Barley Pop

Follow up, if I need a 28 spline LS diff, Yukon or Auburn?

Howdy Gang,

Seems I may have 28 spline shafts so my LSD choice may change.

Hoping to be under $300 for the Ford T-L, but that may not happen.

Yukon and Auburn both offer LSDs for the 8.8 28. Any thoughts?

My jeep buddies like the Yukon and at just under $500 both seem close.

The Yukon looks easier to rebuild if needed. I'll call each sales dept and get a vibe.

Let you know.

Thanks,
BP

I'll confirm it is a 38 spline. As has been stated countless times on this forum unless you have an FX4 Level 2 package truck, which were only made for a few years in the early 2000s you have a 28 spline axle.

Thanks '08

Kinda what I thought. So, now what LSD to get?

90% street use, traction needed for rain/snow on roads to work.

10% movin' firewood for my father-in-law.

take that damn tag off, they hold moisture and the tube suffers from rust, LOTS of rust, under that tag.
