im having some fuel problems with my 87 2.9l ext cab. sometimes when i go to start it there will be no fuel pressure and it wont start at all. ill let it sit for a day try it again and it will start up but after driving a mile or so it will cut out bad for like 30 seconds and then after that run great. then ill park it try starting it again later and no pressure again. Im not sure if i need to replace the in take sending unit the in line pump or the inertia switch or pressure regulator. i already replaced the filter. Any ideas? im personally thinking in line pump?

verify that you have power going to the pumps when you have a no start contition, if you do, check your grounds to your pumps, if you have a good ground then your problem is with the pumps. If there is no power at the pumps when this occurs then check your fuse or fusible link, the fuel pump relay, and the inertia switch

well i ordered a new in take pump and a new in line pump i really hope this solves it cuz i thought it was really weird how it only happens occasionally and how upon start up it sputters so bad like its not getting fuel. could it be the relay or a ground or will my new pumps solve it?

I would check my fuel pressure at the rail. If you have around 40psi at the rail with the key on, your pumps are working. Wait until it won't start and check it again. This will show if the pumps are good and the FPR is good. Also I would check the plug on your FP relay and make sure they are not corroded. Make sure the red and white wire that connects to your starter relay is tight, and not corroded. You can eleminate the enertia switch by jumping it across with a jumper wire. Good luck,,hope some of this helps.
