if you have a body saw they work great if you want to pop the k member too....easy to buzz those little guys along the welds. i pop holes in the upper corners sometimes as well and use a reg sawzall with a laser/rescue premium blade.

or my plasma cutter....:thefinger:

Frame is apart:

Then I got a new phone, the photobucket app for this one is driving me nuts.

Anyway, back to body work:

Yesterday was a bad day for painting. I will see how well the hood turns out. I tried to work near the door for ventilation, but ended up with a lot of debris in the paint. Gnats kept landing in it too.

Also, looks like I had some mixed paint left over from last time.

I think it is still liquid in the middle.

i think hoods are 100 bux normally, and go down to 89 shipped on occasion.

of course i have more time then money, though i dont think i would put the effort into removing all the paint. nice work there...just wet sand it a few times and make ya up a lil booth with some tarp to keep the dust and critters out....couple 500 watt lights and you will be golden.

that said...i did recently ruin a new hood because i was too lazy to tweak my hood pins after the cow attacked my truck last fall...she needs stop drill and rivot work now:icon_rofl:

The bed, roof and hood were taken to bare metal to address particular rust issues. The rest of the cab is going to get sanded to the original primer and spot treated if something is sticking through the primer. Then I am going to just do a single coat of the Valspar primer over the original and go to town with the black.

Photobucket and Chrome can't get along tonight, so more pictures later.

Dash out:

Took 30 minutes, by myself, used power tools on like 3 bolts, and I was doing other stuff in that time. This is how God intended for cars to be put together.

I set the hood back on to make some space for the other truck to get some work yesterday. Almost makes me wish I was leaving it red.

A few poser pics for fun.

Doing work:

New exhasut:

The safety inspector failed my because it didn't sound cool enough, so my glass pack got moved from the want to the need column.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Who is that Masked Truck?

Primer:

Somehow these guys got missed in the photoshoot yesterday:

I have a few runs on the driver's side. I am going to try to level them with these 3200 grit sanding blocks we just started carrying at the store. Other than that and some texture from the sanding it turned out really nice.

Thanks. Honestly, it kind of reminds me of doing models when I was a kid.

Thanks, but I wouldn't say I am that brave. I had some, albeit minor, experience painting before I started on this.

Also I have been taking baby steps on this. The first thing I painted was the underside of the bed, so if I screwed it up bad it wouldn't show. On the cab I started on the back where nobody could see.

Also, this isn't meant to be a permanent paint job. In a few years when I have some money available I will get it redone professionally. This was done to make the truck black and deal with rust that was starting before it turned into the problems my current body has.

As for the rest of the stuff I have done, this has been bread and butter work for me for almost six years. Once pulling engines and transmissions out becomes commonplace anything else is just a bigger pile of bolts, so nothing scary as far as the rest of the project goes.

A bit more done, a lot of this week has been leg work looking for supplies and such. I have also been prepping to brace and in-lay the hole in the one frame rail. The person helping me with that part is an old friend, who I have seen twice this week. It's one of those friendships where a "simple" conversation is a two hour minimum. Lot of time spent just talking this week.

Anyway, picture time.

Floors rust wasn't as bad as I thought:

Did the sills in bed armor over the paint:

Clean frame rail:

It will be at least a few weeks until I am ready to paint this, so I did it over in a light coat of Valspar rust control primer. It isn't a rust converter, but should lock down any spots I missed when cleaning, and will keep anything new off the metal. Also I should be able to just scuff-sand it and lay my other paint/primer right over it without cleaning again.

Been working. Haven't been taking a lot of pictures though.

Last Friday my assistant and I tore into the SOHC.

He is getting the front cover off for me with his "baby drill".

Then I went shopping for a new space heater, since winter is coming, not quickly, but it is coming.

$60, plus when he gets the new one installed he will give me what ever piping he has left over.

I got the rest of the frame cleaned, I have to wire wheel the last two cross members tomorrow after I do some work for a friend. Once that is done I am going to break out the primer and spray gun and get to it. Frame should be black by tomorrow at dinner.
