I just recently picked up a 2.3 for a project, but the guy I got it from has no idea what year or OBD it is. Is there a way to tell? I believe it's a dual plug, but other than that I'm lost.

Look around the engine bay, near the core support and front of the hood. There should be a white sticker with a vacuum diagram that says "this vehicle conforms to new model year 19XX standards". That's the year. 95 and up should be OBDII.

Then look around the engine bay and under the dash in front of the driver's seat. OBDII will be in the cab, OBDI will be under the hood.

A pic and the VIN would also be helpful.

I wish I had the truck, the motor was removed from it prior.

The OBDII intake manifolds ('95 to ?) have four individual runners. OBDI ('89? to '94) have runners together in pairs. Even older ones have what looks like a single large square runner but is actually all four together.

Thank you, but now this leads me to ask another question. This one doesn't have a distributor, but my other 2.3 does. Is there any way to convert it so I can toss the distributor?
