so is it typical of the power-house ( :icon_rofl:) 2.9 with a a4ld and 3:73 with 235-75-15s to only be able to hit a whopping 35 mph going up a 7% grade? or are there other issues that might be going on ? the outside temp was about 90˚.

my 3.0L only did 35mph with a loaded 5x8trailer and bed filled including my quad(second gear at 3000rpm). that was with 3.73s and 225/70-15s and 5-speed and climbing to a couple thousand ft on a 6% so that does sound a bit low with being unloaded.

I'd say its typical of a 23 year old engine . Time to upgrade.

air filter is good. just replaced it about a month ago with a non-fram.
as for the fuel filter. im having a hell of a time trying to get to that damn thing.
i cant figure out what Ford was thinking when they made that placement design. :annoyed:

remove the cover plate, spin it off with a strap wrench.

then, do the one up by the engine, it's easiest to crawl under from the front bumper.

finally, i can run 70mph up a 7% with the same configuration as you in an 86 b2.

mine is located in the frame, under the drivers seat covered by a plate.
with those funky clips that connect the fuel line to the filter.
im probably making it harder than it is.

there should be one inline up by the engine, and one screw on element type on the rail, look for both.

I run 65 up a 6.5% daily. I have to hit it at 65 in 4th to make it to the top at anything approaching a reasonable speed.
