OK so I swapped a 96 explorer 5.0 into a 2000 ranger. I went carbed with it, everything works good except the alternator. I can't get it to charge my battery. I have a 2 wire plug for the voltage regulator on the alternator which contains a Yellow/White wire, and a Green/Red wire. I also have the heavy cable that runs from the alternator to the fuse box. I'm not sure what I connect the other end of the two wire plug to, I've tried a couple different connections and nothing is working out for me. All I'm reading is 12 volts. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Green/Red wire is an important one, it is the ON/OFF switch for the alternator.

It is connected to the Voltage gauge on the dash, when you turn the key to ON, 12volts is passed from ignition switch, thru the Gauge(and BATTERY light on some) to the alternator, this will turn it on, allow it to charge battery.

Yellow/white will go to a 30amp fuse(Alt sys) in the Power Box.

There should also be a 3rd "jumper" wire, white/black, the goes from the 3 wire connector to a single plug on alternator

As noted, all three wires for the alternator need to be energized to get the alternator to work.

The heavy wire is always hot from the battery (on the explorer harness, the starter solenoid)

The Yellow/White wire is hot from the fuse box. It exits from the front of the fuse box near the battery and merges with the Ranger wiring bundle for the a/c compressor.

The Green/Red wire is hot with the ignition on, it's one of the wires in the 6 wire plug under the brake booster (same place the Ranger starter solenoid wire is)

If you gently open up the wiring bundle between the a/c compressor and body, you'll find the wires you need.
