Posted in the v8 forum with no reply.... I am ordering the adapter monday so thought I would try here.

Ok heres whats up, getting ready to order the adapter from advance adapters to do a 5.0/AOD swap in my 1986 ranger xl. I noticed the transmission and adapter length for the AOD with the adapter is something like 29.50" my stock FM145 is something just under 27". (26.75"ish") What I would like to know is how to go about moving my crossmember back enough to make it work? I also noticed on the frame it looks as if the holes had been punched out from the factory to move the crossmember back 2", I am asuming this is for the A4LD? (29")

Also next I need to know if I could just grab up some drive lines from say, an 88 ranger xl with eather an A4LD or FM146? or would I have no choice but to have my stock rear shortend ect...

I have the money for the adapter and would like to have it ordered this monday when they open. so any advice I could get over the weekend would be nice.:icon_cheers:

The rear holes are indeed punched for the A4LD. It is a simple matter to move the ears back. I don't know if that will put the cross member in the right spot. I'd get one of the inside-the-rails ones and just locate it where you need it.

As for the drive shaft, what is the length of the A4LD/FM146 compared to the AOD? If its within an inch or so, you should be fine. Otherwise, you need to get it shortened.

The adapter is for swaping out an A4LD/FM146 ranger and going to the 5.0l/AOD
As far as the length of the drive shaft Im not sure. my BII has a FM146 but that wont help us here. lol.

I'm a bit confused by the 5.0/AOD part. If you are putting a 5.0 in you don't need an adapter for an AOD.

AODs aren't great trannies though. They like to blow out 4th gear.
